In 2022, we helped pass a bill to create a prescription drug affordability board to make prescription drugs affordable. Now we’re working to protect patients from surprise ambulance bills.

Calling an ambulance can mean the difference between life and death in an emergency. Nobody should be scared to call an ambulance out of concern for costs. Help protect Washingtonians by preventing ground ambulance surprise billing. When a medical emergency strikes, the most important thing is to get help fast.

The problem is that patients themselves generally don’t choose their ambulance service. They call 9-1-1, and the dispatcher sends out a responder. Studies show about half of emergency ambulance patients end up with a surprise medical bill from an out-of-network charge for the transportation services, and it’s not cheap. If you receive a surprise bill from a ground ambulance, you’ll probably have to pay around $450. That’s why we’re working to include ground ambulances in Washington’s No Surprises Act which exempted ground ambulances. Help us give Washington patients the right to surprise billing protections from ambulances!
